BRGM is organising the next EUCC-France workshop on the Var coastline in Hyères, on 17 and 18 November 2022.

Managing erosion along the Var département’s rocky and sandy coastal strip

The Var department has a predominantly rocky coastline, interspersed nevertheless with long sandy stretches. It is an extremely rich and diverse domain, but it is under strong anthropogenic pressure, which is destabilising this remarkable spot and making it more susceptible to the effects of a changing climate. The area’s diverse natural resources and multiple management approaches make it an ideal place for discussing and sharing coastal knowledge.

The 36th EUCC-France workshop

Hosted by BRGM and sponsored by many partners, the event includes a field day on Thursday 17 November, followed by discussions and a round-up on the morning of Friday 18 November.

The programme includes a review of the sites visited during the EUCC workshop of 14 and 15 October 2014 to assess the actions carried out in the light of geomorphological and also regulatory changes, including the management of water environments and flood prevention (GEMAPI), now carried out at the intermunicipal level, and France's Climate and Resilience Act.

The workshop will also include a presentation of the latest research on the management strategy of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) regional coastline: Paving the way from an understanding of hazards to environmental management.
