BRGM is co-organising the 2022 edition of the conference “Resources and uses of the subsoil for the energy transition” in partnership with the CNRS, the Avenia cluster, IFP Énergies Nouvelles and ADEME. The event will take place on 27 and 28 September at the Cité des Sciences in Paris.

In what way can the subsurface contribute to the energy transition?
What opportunities can the energy transition provide for the subsurface?
What are the issues associated with surface/subsurface interaction?

This conference seeks to bring together all the stakeholders (local authorities, institutional players, civil society, researchers, etc.) who are interested in learning how the subsurface could play a role in the necessary socio-ecological transition and how it could support France in achieving the increasingly vital objective of energy independence.

This conference will study:

  • Subsurface resources (energy, materials, minerals, etc.) and their possible uses (energy storage, CO2 storage, etc.) to support the dynamics of the energy transition across the regions.
  • Issues associated with different operations: risk management, regulation, stakeholder perceptions, project governance, etc.

The conference will seek to provide answers concerning the legitimacy of the various subsurface engineering activities in the energy transition, and the conditions for implementing projects on French soil.
