Summary
The HYPST-R tool was developed in support of a study aiming to provide information for groundwater resource managers about the uncertainties relating to estimators of the chemical condition of the groundwater bodies they calculate.
Using a method based on generating virtual time series, the study simulated the uncertainties involved in calculating mean annual average values (MMA) and in the frequency at which the threshold value (FD) is exceeded, depending on the parameters characterising the time series (type of chemical element, hydrodynamic function and monitoring carried out).
The HYPST-R interface was developed to make it easier to consult the results produced during the study. With this interface, the operator can:
- easily display and analyse all simulated uncertainties for both metrics studied (MMA and FD);
- export the selected results in the form of datasheets or graphs;
- generate virtual time series by setting the change parameters.

Left: calculation of simulated uncertainties in the mean annual average calculation for monotonic (non-cyclic) time series depending on the sampling frequency (abscissae on the graphs), the length of the time series (columns), the analytical uncertainty of the analysis results (lines) and the sampling regularity (colours). Right: generation of a virtual time series, given the development to a multi-year cycle with a period of 10 years and an amplitude of 0.5 and given an analytical uncertainty of 10% and a 12-year monitoring period with 4 measurements per year according to a regular schedule.
