Wallpaper No. 35 - Between two lava flows, a superficial layer of cinders rich in iron compounds was transformed into earth before turning into clay due to the warm and humid climate of the Tertiary Age. After another lava flow on this acidic ground, the iron oxidised, thus giving the stratum its reddish colour (Iceland, 2013).
