On 4 March 2024, BRGM signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Mining and Geology of the Republic of Uzbekistan, during the PDAC exhibition in Toronto.

The agreement signed in Toronto between BRGM and the Ministry of Mining and Geology of the Republic of Uzbekistan on 4 March 2024 aims to provide a framework for scientific and technical cooperation between the two organisations for the purpose of strengthening training capacities, bilateral research activities and mutual exchanges of experience.

The various scientific themes covered by the agreement are:

  • hydrogeology and the protection of water resources,
  • mineral resources,
  • geological mapping,
  • digital data,
  • the environmental impact of geological and exploration activities,
  • geothermal energy and CO2 storage,
  • flood and seismic risks,
  • etc.

Developing a digital infrastructure for Uzbekistan's subsurface resources and risks

In particular, BRGM will be offering its expertise and experience in developing a national geological survey organisation in Uzbekistan, and in setting up a relevant, efficient digital infrastructure for banking information on subsurface resources and risks. This is an essential way of ensuring sustainable and responsible mining activities.
