BRGM scientists were heard for a parliamentary fact-finding mission on major climatic events in coastal areas and a Senate fact-finding mission on natural risks in Overseas France.

Prevention of major climatic risks: hearings of BRGM scientists for a parliamentary fact-finding mission

On 1 February 2018, two BRGM scientists were heard by the parliamentary fact-finding mission on management of major climatic events in the coastal regions of mainland and overseas France.

Jean-Marc Mompelat, deputy director for BRGM regional activities and Overseas France delegate, and Gonéri Le Cozannet, a BRGM researcher and project leader for the programme on "vulnerability and resilience of urbanised systems and climate change impacts", presented work conducted by the BRGM on coastal risks and climate change.

Visit to the BRGM by the Senate delegation for Overseas France

A fact-finding mission by the Senate delegation for Overseas France was received by the BRGM on 29 January 2018 for a hearing on component 1 of a natural risks study on "Prevention, anticipation and emergency management" in Overseas France.

The following topics were presented at the hearing:

  • knowledge and prevention of seismic and volcanic risks,
  • ground instability hazards,
  • coastal risks,
  • integrating risk factors in spatial planning,
  • emergency management,
  • scientific knowledge and research as a key to prevention.
