Michèle Rousseau, the BRGM's managing director, and Professor Hajime Nakagawa, director of the risk prevention institute of the University of Kyoto (DPRI), signed the new partnership agreement between their organisations on 12 March 2018.
Longstanding collaboration with Japan on natural risks
This agreement continues their longstanding collaboration on natural risks in Japan, launched in 2003 and intensified since the Fukushima disaster. The agreement enables the BRGM and DPRI to exchange researchers and conduct scientific projects of common interest (site effects, structural vulnerabilities).
The BRGM's partnership with the University of Kyoto covers numerous areas of risk prevention: earthquakes, land slips, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, extreme maritime risks, coastal erosion, climate change impacts, drinking water resources for disaster-hit populations, etc.
