Summary of fluctuations in the markets for a number of strategic metals during the year 2021

This document sets out the fluctuations in the markets for certain strategic metals during the year 2020:

  • so-called "electrical" metals, essential for the energy transition because they play a major role in the manufacture of batteries: cobalt, graphite, lithium and manganese;
  • "rare metals" (including rare earths in particular), which need to be used in very small quantities, but are essential for many technologies in the fields of energy, information and communication technologies and transport: antimony, beryllium, bismuth, cadmium, chromium, gallium, germanium, hafnium, indium, lanthanides, magnesium, molybdenum, niobium, rhenium, scandium, selenium, silicon, tantalum, tellurium, titanium, tungsten, vanadium, yttrium and zirconium.

These chapters were produced by BRGM under agreements signed respectively between BRGM and CyclOpe for the first and between BRGM and the Water and Biodiversity Directorate of the Ministry of Ecological Transition for the second. These agreements cover the public dissemination of these chapters within an exclusivity period of 6 months after the release of the CyclOpe report, in accordance with the Act of 6 October 2016 for a Digital Republic.
