Conference "The climate emergency: a decisive turning point?", in Paris on 8 and 9 March 2024

A symposium organised by the Académie des Sciences
In January 2020, the Académie des Sciences organised a two-day symposium entitled "Face au changement climatique, le champ des possibles" [Facing climate change: the range of possible solutions].
Since then, the reality of global warming has been confirmed by a succession of warm years and more intense and/or more frequent extreme events. The scientific community attributes it – now unequivocally – to human activity, and for the first time all the countries meeting in Dubai as part of the Climate Convention have acknowledged that fossil fuels are largely responsible.
Are we at a turning point in terms of the urgent need to take action, to rapidly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to global warming that is now inevitable? The aim of this symposium is to shed light on these issues, drawing on the most recent research, with the first day largely devoted to a global overview and the second focusing on France.
