Your challenges and needs
As the national focal point for access to information related to the promotion of the mining sector, you are responsible for the collection, management, and dissemination of essential information for knowledge production and mining activities.
Your institution aims to strengthen its information infrastructure and enhance the knowledge base necessary for resources management, while implementing advanced information management technologies to showcase your heritage and boost the sector's appeal on the international stage.
You have to:
- Inventory and digitize your documentary collection,
- Georeference your reports and maps to facilitate their discovery,
- Manage and utilize the reports produced by mining operators,
- Implement a geological and mining information system including documentary information as its foundation,
- Distribute your heritage via a web portal to enhance your country's appeal to investors in the mining sector.

Our added value
At the request of its institutional partners (Ministries, Geological Services, Mining Departments, etc.) and inter-national funding agencies, BRGM is rolling out a service offering that meets the needs for (re)establishing geo-scientific documentary archives.
Our solution, pragmatic and competitive, enables installations similar to the one deployed and proven at BRGM: a guarantee of security and sustainability for partners.
The offer is based on the use of open-source software that BRGM has been able to adapt to the needs of geoscientific themes.
To rebuild geological and mining heritage on a national scale, BRGM's actions aim to:
- Provide practical solutions to bring premises and equipment into compliance to ensure the smooth operation of documentary activities,
- Implement integrated library management systems (physical and/or digital),
- Offer geolocation of maps and reports to facilitate their discovery,
- Enhance existing collections and preserve heritage through the digital reconstruction of internal and external documents
- Establish a digitization workflow by facilitating access to the primary document in full-text,
- Enable selective information search and dissemination, and develop catalogs and web portals,
- Assist stakeholders with document strategy and document communicability,
- Make documentary catalogs interoperable with geological and mining information systems (GIS/DB)
- Include a "training and technology transfer" component to strengthen the capabilities of its partners and clients.
