Strengthen National Geoscience Programmes
Against a backdrop of the global energy transition and growing concerns around industrial sovereignty, demand is increasing for faster, lower-impact, and more data-driven geoscience capabilities. To address national and European ethical and sovereignty issues concerning the supply of mineral resources, particularly critical ones, the French government decided to update the strategic inventory of mineral resources in the subsurface of France and assigned the task to BRGM.
The agreement between Fleet Space and BRGM stems from the Geophysics Innovation Challenge launched by BRGM in July 2025. This initiative was designed to advance the understanding of geological structures and mineral potential in French Guiana, supporting the responsible and sustainable exploration of critical mineral resources in one of the most complex and challenging environments for mineral exploration.
The collaboration will focus on the development of innovative geophysical acquisition, processing, and analysis approaches to support advanced subsurface characterisation and resource exploration leveraging their complementary expertise in geosciences.
Advance the understanding of geology and mineral resources in French Guiana
Under the MoU, the parties will initially prioritise the co-development of new approaches to geophysical data acquisition and subsurface interpretation in French Guiana, leveraging Fleet Space’s exploration platform and BRGM’s extensive geological, geophysical and operational expertise in the region.
The collaboration is expected to explore scalable, lower-impact approaches to regional subsurface characterisation that may inform future geoscience programmes in frontier and remote environments globally.
Support the responsible and sustainable exploration of critical mineral resources
Fleet Space is globally recognised for its ExoSphere platform, which combines satellite-enabled seismic sensing, edge computing, and AI-driven intelligence to deliver rapid, low-impact subsurface imaging for exploration programmes. The company has completed hundreds of deployments worldwide and is increasingly applying its technologies across Earth, lunar, and planetary exploration initiatives.
Drawing on decades of expertise in geological mapping, geophysics, geological modelling and mineral exploration, and its innovation capacity in these fields, BRGM contributes advanced methodologies, expertise in complex geological settings, and strong field experience to help develop more effective and innovative approaches for mineral exploration in French Guiana.
Combining advances in space-enabled technology, AI, and geophysics, this strategic partnership aims to address the scientific and industrial challenges of the 21st century in the field of mineral resources, by accelerating both technological innovation and applied research.
