MétéEAU Nappes: display of the national groundwater situation at the beginning of the month or for past months

Since 2021, BRGM has developed the MétéEAU Nappes website, which offers a range of services for monitoring the current and future behaviour of aquifers in France. It is an effective decision-support tool for managing water resources in sensitive areas (management of low flow in rivers, risk of flooding due to rising water tables, etc.).

A new interface for MétéEAU Nappes
In June 2025, BRGM put a new version of MétéEAU Nappes on line to provide the graphic and functional changes expected by users.
The interface is now more modern, streamlined and responsive, making it easier to browse and improving the user experience when consulting the site on a mobile device.
A platform which is more accessible to the public
MétéEAU Nappes is also becoming more accessible to the general public, as part of an "open science" approach, with a number of new features:
- browsing without an account,
- an initial screen displaying the French groundwater bulletin,
- easy access to real-time aquifer levels from all the boreholes and springs in the national piezometric network.
Advanced options for water resource managers
Water resource managers (administrative authorities, water agencies, local communities, drinking water syndicates), will continue to have access to advanced options after logging in via an account (with email and password).
The application is also more powerful, with the ability to launch forecasts using the new Gardenia code (called Rameau), which has become open source and benefits from the latest scientific developments, thanks to research projects carried out by BRGM.
