On 26 November, BRGM hosted the official launch of the regional delegation of the Institut des Hautes Études pour la Science et la Technologie en Centre-Val de Loire (IHEST Centre-Val de Loire) in Orléans.
On this occasion, the agreement formalising the creation of the delegation was signed, marking an important step in strengthening the links between science, public authorities and society in the region.
This delegation has become the fifth regional branch of the IHEST in France, bringing together a wide range of delegates: researchers, elected representatives, public officials and company directors, all of whom have completed the Institute's national training cycle.
Develop viable projects for the region
The new delegation will be coordinated by Francis Garrido (BRGM), Nathalie Munoz-Abad (DEV'UP Centre-Val de Loire) and Guy Richard (INRAE), three people who are committed to implementing the IHEST's mission locally, and who will be responsible for leading this new regional network.
Their ambition is to develop practical projects, encourage brainstorming and support local change through interactions between scientific knowledge and the decision-making process.

An afternoon of discussion at BRGM
To mark its launch, the Centre-Val de Loire delegation of the IHEST chose a unifying theme: The Loire, a river flowing through regions in transition.
Representatives from the Haut-Commissariat au Plan et à la Stratégie |French High Commission for Strategic Planning], the Établissement Public Loire, the Mission Val de Loire and the Saint-Mesmin nature reserve explored the many dimensions of an emblematic and living river:
- Water resource management, in a context of climate change and increasing demand
- The many different uses – transport, tourism, agriculture, energy – and the search for a sustainable balance
- The cultural and landscape heritage, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and challenges for its future enhancement
