On Wednesday 12 March 2025, BRGM and the Institut des Hautes Etudes par les Sciences et la Technologie (IHEST) signed a framework agreement to facilitate collaboration between the two organisations.
IHEST helps to inform public decision-making on the major societal issues by training high-level decision-makers in a multidisciplinary scientific approach and by contributing to public debate.
BRGM, the French Geological Survey, is the French institution responsible for ground and sub-surface studies and applications.
Develop cooperation between BRGM and IHEST in training decision-makers
The aim of this agreement is to promote cooperation between the two organisations, to support the training of high-level executives, by:
- having BRGM managers (or future managers) participate in the annual training cycle run by IHEST, based on one or two candidates per year put forward by BRGM,
- BRGM's participation, where relevant, in other IHEST activities, such as regional universities, thematic seminars and stakeholder meetings,
- acquiring the advice and expertise of IHEST via its management training programmes.
Mobilise the complementary skills of BRGM, IHEST and IHEST alumni to:
- set up training courses or meetings for specific stakeholders on BRGM's research topics relating to ground and subsurface resources and risks,
- debate issues at an early stage,
- identify themes of interest that could be investigated by participants in the national training cycle.
Facilitate, through the BRGM employees in the IHEST alumni network, the setting up of regional IHEST delegations, particularly in the Centre-Val de Loire region.
