Convinced that digital intelligence is one way of accelerating the transformation of society and building a more secure future, BRGM has strengthened its digital-business infrastructure and human resources in recent years. The French geological survey has also explored artificial intelligence methods, particularly for their potential for predicting mineral resources and natural hazards.
In 2025, BRGM is pursuing this ambitious goal with the founding of BRGM Num, its 100% digital subsidiary, with the specific aim of preserving the environment through digital technology.

Supporting the modernisation of public stakeholders and the ecological transition of companies
BRGM Num's mission is to continue supporting the modernisation of the State by:
- improving the dissemination and transparency of data to better manage resources and prevent risks,
- simplifying environmental regulatory procedures via online declaration services and electronic forms,
- developing digital environments for government employees and local and regional authorities.
Drawing on BRGM's scientific expertise, its strong R&D capability and advances in digital transformation, BRGM Num aims to transform its know-how into services for society.
The subsidiary's ambition is to help companies achieve their ecological transition by means of responsible digital tools, thereby facilitating compliance and securing their business.
Responsible and useful digital services to transform society
BRGM Num will be responsible for digital activities with a high level of technological maturity, including digital services that exemplify the government's policy of making data more accessible and simplifying procedures:
- ADES, portal for groundwater data,
- Géorisques, the essential tool for finding out about the risks near you,
- Trackdéchets, to guarantee traceability of waste flows,
- GIDAF, which monitors polluting emissions,
- Infosols, specifically for DREAL agents who manage information on polluted land in order to optimise monitoring,
- Envinorma, which simplifies access to the regulations applicable to facilities classified for environmental protection.
The BRGM Group is evolving to develop its activities and clarify its positioning
In 2025, BRGM acquired stakes in two new subsidiaries: BRGM Num, a subsidiary dedicated to digital technology and services, for €1.5 million, and BRGM Explore, for €2.2 million.
BRGM Explore will be responsible for carrying out the inventory of French subsurface mineral resources (IRM), a programme that was also formally launched on 13 February 2025. Subsequently, it also aims to carry out other projects, in France and abroad, drawing on the expertise of its teams in mineral exploration.
Finally, in 2024, BRGM renamed its investment holding company as BRGM Invest (formerly SAGEOS), to clarify its positioning with the subsidiaries it partners in the field of subsurface sciences.
