The first copies were snapped up in just a few days at the Pollutec trade fair in Lyon in October. Among other communication media, BRGM was displaying its new magazine for the general public on its stand, and many visitors wanted to preview the BRGM mag !

This compact magazine (slightly smaller than an A4 format), with 20 or 24 pages, depending on the news, is aimed at anyone interested in the solutions that BRGM, by mobilising the subsurface, can provide to the problems associated with the impacts of climate change, the necessary ecological transition and for achieving the strategic goal of resource sovereignty.

The target audience includes local authorities, government departments, academic partners, the scientific community, engineering consultants, manufacturers, etc., as well as members of the public wishing to understand the current challenges in the Earth sciences and the research community.

Making information accessible

With the aim of optimising BRGM's editorial resources, this new magazine replaces two previous communication media: Géorama, which reviewed projects linked to a selected theme, and R*, la lettre de la recherche, which reported on the Institution’s scientific news.

Borrowing from journalistic codes, BRGM mag has adopted a deliberately flexible range of features, to be able to adapt to its latest news, with varied forms (articles, interviews, computer graphics, reports, FAQs, etc.), as well as a popularised and educational editorial style to make the information accessible to as many people as possible.

It alternates between short formats, to briefly present a selection of projects and illustrate the diversity of issues dealt with by BRGM, and longer formats, to explore specific topics in greater depth. The topical articles include structural information in the form of direct quotations, lexical elements and quantitative indicators.

The magazine will, moreover, invite personalities from outside BRGM to share their thoughts, while also linking to existing on-line content.

A free on-line magazine

BRGM mag is distributed free of charge at certain events in which BRGM is involved and can also be viewed on the www.brgm.fr website and downloaded as a PDF file. Some of its content will be posted on BRGM's social networks. Three issues are planned each year. Watch out for BRGM mag No.2 in the first quarter of 2026 !
