BRGM's annual report for 2025: a year of transformation and growth

Exceptional growth in BRGM’s activities: +50% in 6 years

In a world that is undergoing profound transformations, where climate change is having a major impact on our planet, and in a domestic context that is placing long-term pressure on public finances and policies, BRGM continued to mobilise its resources in 2025 to support the exceptional growth of our operations: + 50% in 6 years!

Our latest annual report describes some of the highlights of the last financial year, including:

• major scientific contributions, for example concerning the seismic and volcanic characteristics of Mayotte,
• the provision of tools to support public policy decision-making, for example in the fields of water – with the new version of MétéEAU Nappes – and coastal risks, with the CoCliCo platform,
• made-to-measure solutions for public sector stakeholders in France and around the world, where BRGM is also developing its activities.

In 2025, BRGM also launched the Mineral Resources Inventory (IRM) and the Deep Geothermal Resources Inventory, in addition to creating the start-up CaliCO₂, which is developing a decarbonisation process patented by BRGM. The latter example demonstrates our ability to turn fundamental science into practical solutions, just as the investments made through BRGM Invest reflect our commitment to providing long-term support for projects that provide tangible solutions to the challenges facing today's world. Our other subsidiaries – BRGM Explore, IRIS Instruments and CFG – also performed exceptionally well.

The subsurface: playing a central role in addressing today’s social and environmental challenges

This report highlights how the subsurface has once again become a central issue in public policy decision-making. In the face of increasingly stringent requirements and regulations, BRGM is continuing its efforts to operate even more effectively, whilst leading high-impact projects such as the "French Geological Reference Platform" (RGF).

BRGM also focuses on the development of digital technologies to consolidate its position as the national benchmark for data, knowledge bases and digital services relating to the ground and subsurface, notably through its integrated digital platform (PNl).

Collaboration and excellence are the other two pillars of BRGM's work, enabling it to accelerate innovation in the face of change and maintain the high quality of its studies.
