BRGM is proud to invite you to attend the new edition of TInnov in person, on Wednesday, 6 October 2021 at Lab'O in Orléans, to imagine the geoservices of the future!

A relaxed and informal day-long event, devoted to creativity and divided into short pitch sessions.

To stimulate your creative spirit, you will be called upon at the TInnov event to develop new service concepts as part of a mixed team made up of representatives of SMEs, large industrial groups and start-ups, but also local communities, engineers and BRGM researchers.

Imagining tomorrow's digital geoservices to better understand and protect the environment

BRGM is the authoritative French institution for ground and subsurface management. It helps shape public policies and provides support to private actors with respect to common issues: energy transition, climate change, prevention concerning natural hazards, the sustainable exploitation of subsurface resources, spatial planning and the circular economy, thanks to the environmental data collected throughout the country. Its mission is to make these data available and to design the facilities and tools to make them usable and accessible.

During this challenge, you and your team-mates will dream up the digital geoservices of tomorrow to better understand and protect the environment.

The best concepts may then be developed in partnership, with full support from BRGM.

Theme: Smart subsurface

The sustainable city of tomorrow will lead to a "vertical" urban development which must take into account the specific constraints of the use of the subsurface (networks, energy, transport, storage, security...). What would be the virtuous circle to develop and exploit the subsurface in an optimal way? How can we improve its control and visibility in the urban environment?

Let's imagine together the solutions of tomorrow during a creative and convivial day!

On 6th October let’s imagine it’s 2042!

Meet up with us in the future for the next edition of TInnov, which will use Design Fiction to stimulate ideas on the theme of a “Smart subsurface".

Design Fiction is an innovative technique that stimulates imaginative storytelling to boost creativity. Fictional scenarios, often revealing a possible – but not necessarily probable – future, are used as starting points for reflection. This exercise of projecting into an imaginary universe is now increasingly used by both private and public players to encourage innovation.

Initiated in 2011, the City 2030 project is a good example: the work carried out in the Think Tank IDEAs Laboratory led to the proposal in 2015 of four scenarios of imaginary cities that differ in their economic and environmental orientations and their lifestyles. This project gave rise to Self-City, a network city of sustainable villages based on solidarity, and Castle City, a strong, dense, active and attractive city.

Another example is that of District2024, a collection of fictional scenarios designed to accelerate architectural innovation. These scenarios take us into the "Quartier du Bord de Seine" to imagine new horizons for urban projects.

Deep City: when fiction meets urban geoscience

During the next TInnov day, participants will be projected into the year 2042, in an imaginary city where underground planning and optimisation of underground resources is a top priority: welcome to Deep City!

Climate change, zero net soil artificialisation, integration of geological data in development projects, intensification of the circular economy, water sobriety, respect for planetary limits, the list is endless! How will Deep City use the subsurface to meet its challenges in 2042?

To build this fictional scenario, we were inspired by amazing projects related to the subsurface, such as the "Lowline" project, which aimed to develop an underground park in New York City within a former urban wasteland.

Once immersed in the universe of Deep City, TInnov participants will be invited to play the role of different stakeholders within this futuristic city and to imagine new concepts of products and services in the field of urban geoscience.

See you on 6 October 2021 (... or rather 2042) for this futuristic step into an imaginative world, dedicated to collaborative innovation!
