BRGM meets Local Authorities

The Mayors' and Local Authorities' Convention is a forum for collective construction, where players from the public and private sectors, as well as associations, can build partnerships, exchange ideas and feedback on experiences and work together to address the urgent challenges facing local communities.

BRGM will be participating in this event in order to meet its local partners to whom it provides input for shaping public policies.

Regional Risk Prevention & Adaptation Lab - Pavilion 3 - Tuesday 19 November 2024, from 11:45am to 12:45pm

Various recent regulatory changes have affected how excavated soil is managed in France, with the deployment of several tools designed to facilitate the monitoring and tracking of flows (RNDTS, TERRASS) and to encourage their re-use based on a circular economy approach. The aim of the conference is to help local authorities and public contracting authorities to assimilate and adopt the tools and processes of this approach.

  • Organised by BRGM
  • Panel moderator: Noémie DUBRAC, expert in excavated soil management - BRGM
  • Speaker: Samuel COUSSY, expert in polluted sites and soils and excavated soil management - BRGM

Regional Risk Prevention & Adaptation Lab - Pavilion 3 - Wednesday 20 November 2024, from 2:00pm to 2:30pm

On behalf of the Departmental Water Authority of the Aube département (SDDEA), BRGM conducted an R&D project aimed at ranking the 255 active groundwater-catchment points, according to their degree of vulnerability to climate change.

To do this, an innovative multi-criteria approach was developed, based on the identification of several exposure or sensitivity criteria and on extensive data mining, using the most relevant data possible for this scale of work. This study, while highlighting the region's strengths and weaknesses in terms of subsurface knowledge, enabled us to classify the various structures according to their degree of sensitivity, and to identify the most sensitive sectors/contexts. This session aims to present the benefits of this approach to local authorities and public contracting authorities.

Low-carbon territory Lab - Pavilion 4 - Wednesday 20 November 2024, from 2:00pm to 2:30pm

Near-surface geothermal energy (assisted by heat pumps) can provide decarbonised heating and cooling, with no visual disturbances or noise and no particle emissions. Under certain conditions, it can even cool buildings at almost no cost, thus improving the thermal comfort of the occupants.

Estimating the geothermal-energy potential in a given area requires cross-referencing various cartographic data (geological, hydrogeological and regulatory) and the thermal needs of existing or future buildings. After presenting the methodology, we will provide tangible examples through two case studies: the Greater Paris Metropolitan Area and the Chartres Metropolitan Area.

Regional Risk Prevention & Adaptation Lab - Pavilion 3 - Thursday 21 November 2024, from 11:45am to 12:15pm

The rehabilitation of brownfield sites is actively encouraged by French national policies (Zero Net Artificialisation - ZAN, France Relance, etc.) and due to environmental concerns. With this in mind, to ensure the success of rehabilitation projects, it is essential to justify and track the decisions taken at the various stages of a project in terms of the social, economic, health and environmental issues involved.

RENOV'Friches is an open-access web platform. It provides a clear methodology and decision-making tools to ensure communication between different stakeholders and to support decision-making from the initiation of a rehabilitation project through to its completion, by designing new uses on the basis of objective, weighted and sustainable assessments. Already tried and tested by a number of volunteer local authorities, this platform will be enhanced with new functionalities as its use and the needs of its users evolve.

  • Organised by BRGM
  • Panel moderator: SANDRA BERANGER, expert in brownfield-site rehabilitation - BRGM
  • Speaker: Isabelle BOUROULLEC, geologist - BRGM
