The annual Science Day for the programme for Risks (IRiMa) will be held on Wednesday 4 June 2025 from 9:00am to 6:15pm at the Maison MINATEC in Grenoble. This day is open to all scientific communities, national or local public bodies and agencies, and organisations that provide operational services in the field of risk management. It will provide an opportunity to discuss the latest scientific developments linked to the programme and explore two specific issues in greater depth: emerging risks linked to climate change and mountain risks.

Risk-research Programme (IRiMa)

The Risk-research programme, jointly managed by BRGM, CNRS and the Grenoble-Alpes University, aims to pool and integrate all the scientific knowledge produced by different research communities, in particular in the fields of geosciences, engineering, digital sciences and social sciences and humanities, in order to address the management of natural and technological risks through a systemic approach. The objective is to build a formal, structured scientific approach to risk assessment in order to contribute to the development of a new national strategy for risk and disaster management.

With a budget worth €51.9 million in subsidies funded through the France 2030 national investment plan, it groups together 8 targeted research projects, including four projects focusing on geographical areas that are particularly exposed to disaster risks (mountain risks, coastal risks, risks in urban and peri-urban areas, and risks in French Overseas Territories). It will also provide support funds for new research projects selected through calls for proposals.

A meeting of multi-disciplinary experts in Grenoble

This annual Science Day will bring together a broad spectrum of scientific, institutional and operational players in the field of risk management, providing a dynamic forum for discussions and debates with a view to building synergies between researchers and encouraging new avenues of research.

Scientific news

The day will notably provide an opportunity to review the progress of the research projects funded by the programme and catch up on the latest scientific news.

The event will also promote training and partnership opportunities. Students embarking on new PhD programmes will be presenting their research projects and organisations involved in other research programmes, with links to the issues addressed by the Risk programme, will be attending the event in order to explore and discuss partnership opportunities.

Main themes for 2025

The 2025 Science Day will seek to address certain pressing issues by exploring two particular research themes in greater depth through conferences and round tables:

  • The morning will be devoted to the emerging risks associated with climate change, based on recent events in Mayotte.
  • The afternoon will be devoted to mountain risks, with a round-table discussion focusing on the challenges facing the Grenoble metropolitan area and the Alpine ecosystem.
