BRGM is taking part in a conference-debate for the general public in Orléans on Friday 20 June 2025 on the role of the subsurface in the energy transition.
"Le sous-sol : l’énigmatique poumon de la transition énergétique", une conférence-débat à Orléans.

Our societies wish to make the transition to the use of low-carbon energy. This transition will not happen without a better understanding of the subsurface, the last unknown ‘continent’. Why?

Because the subsurface houses energy resources such as hydrogen and geothermal energy, but also raw materials such as base metals and the well-known critical metals. Heating, the production of low-carbon energy and electric vehicles, and the deployment of high-tech and therefore strategic industries are all becoming major issues that are disrupting world geopolitics, and that all involve the subsurface.

Personalities from the world of geo-engineering, scientific outreach and geologists will decode and debate these issues of subsurface resources.
