MODELLING IMPACT AND DEEP STORAGE
The "Modelling Impact and Deep Storage" unit is active notably in the fields of:
- coupled geochemistry-transport modelling,
- the development of biogeochemical modelling,
- validating concepts of storage (notably for nuclear waste) and pollutant transfer in the environmental compartments,
- sustainability of the materials used in artificial barriers.
The unit's production activities include:
- research projects in partnership with industry and cofinanced by different organizations (ANDRA, ANR, European Commission, etc.),
- public service missions: assistance in drawing up French regulations, participation in French and European standardization commissions, compilation of methodology guides, construction of databases (for example, former landfills), third-party expertise,
- international expertise actions: IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), NEA (Nuclear Energy Agency), NUMO (Nuclear Waste Management Organization of Japan),
- International projects for nuclear waste management agencies: Switzerland (NAGRA; National Co-operative for the Disposal of Radioactive Waste), Belgium (SCK; nuclear research centre), Sweden (SKB; Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Co).
